About Us

Pineland Properties, Inc. purchased the hunting business, including the hunting permits, in game units 25, 26 and 27 of the Payette and Boise National Forests from Wapiti Meadow Ranch in 1998. These units are located in or bordering with the Frank Church Wilderness area. For the last six years prior to becoming Pineland Outfitters, Wapiti Meadow produced a minimum of hunts in the area, on the average two to four hunters per year.

Commercially these units have seen very little use. When Pineland Outfitters took over this business it was determined that the commercial impact on the area would remain at a minimum. Recently, we have added approximately 250 square miles of operating area which we utilize in our summer recreational activities.

Pineland Outfitters’ Guides

Dave Bicandi

Dave Bicandi

Dave up on Sugar Mountain on a Blue Bird day during the fall rut.

Dave Bicandi has been guiding and outfitting for nearly 25 years and is considered by many the premiere archery elk hunting guide. He is also an avid fisherman and experienced river guide.

Dave became interested in guiding and outfitting while growing up Meridian, a suburb of Boise, Idaho. After moving up to his family’s Riggins ranch, he became acquainted with the infamous local, Johnny Carey, who wrote the acclaimed book titled ”River of No Return”, a documentary of  life and times on the mighty Salmon River. It was Johnny who further ignited Dave’s passion for the outdoors and taught him the fundamentals of guiding and packing in the Idaho back country.  Dave is as good as it gets when it comes to bringing the bulls close for that shot of a life time.

Dave has studied the estrus cow and rutting bull elk for over 20 years now; using his diaphragm, he truly sounds more like a sweet cow elk than a real cow elk herself. He is presently perfecting a new call which he refers to as the “Thumper”. He will be using it this fall to fool a herd bull for one of his lucky clients.

Dedrick Selensky-Foust

Dedrick Selensky-Foust

Dedrick was born and raised in Southwest Montana. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Navy for 4 years as a Propulsion Engineer, then became a member of a large corporation in California, where he worked conducting WC/GL Audits for almost a decade. Dedrick attended several colleges and ended up at Boise State University in his late twenties. He currently owns his own Insurance Auditing/Loss Control company and resides in Idaho.

Dedrick’s real passion for hunting came when he was a teenager. Dedrick started hunting at a very young age, and received his first Hoyt Bow at 14 years of age. Later in life, he progressed into hunting big game with a rifle. He fell in love with the thrill and adventure of getting out and bugling in bulls. Getting in close with a bow and arrow and harvesting an animal was just a bonus. At the age of 16, he shot his first cow elk with a bow and became indefinitely hooked.

Dedrick has been guiding friends for the past decade for fun. For him, the opportunity to guide and working in the outdoors is a dream come true. Giving people the experience of a lifetime, making memories and escaping the stressful real world is what he is all about. Dedrick is very passionate about the outdoors. During the off season, you’ll find him fishing, camping and hiking the hills for elk and deer sheds. His strengths are calling in animals, tracking, scouting, locating and judging animals, cooking camp food and sitting by the campfire telling stories.

Jeff with monster steelhead.

Jeff grew up in Idaho and learned about the Idaho backcountry at a very young age. He started working for Outfitters in the early 80s and then moved onto the ski industry for several years. He then worked 18 years with the Forest Service packing mules and working trails in the remotest areas of Idaho. Jeff’s calm demeanor, patience, knowledge and confidence are the foundation for his effectiveness in working with mules, which makes him a great addition to your backcountry adventure.

Being raised as an avid outdoorsman it was imperative that Jeff learn how to take care of himself in the backcountry from an early age. He started off learning these skills from his parents and siblings and learned more skills from a few years as a Boy Scout. He completed his first fifty mile hike at age 12, his first year as a Boy Scout. From there he has continued to hone his skills while hiking, backpacking, hunting and horse packing even today. He has attended several different formal “survival” courses taught by professional instructors, a professor from Boise State University, Search and Rescue trainings and Forest Service trainings. These all addressed working, living and surviving in the backcountry.

Jeff is currently certified as a Wilderness First Responder and has kept this certification current since 1994.

Pineland and its affiliates have always prided themselves on their stewardship of the land. As owner and manager of an outfitting business, which encompasses more than 250 square miles within the Payette National Forest, Boise National Forests and the Frank Church Wilderness, its people have a sincere appreciation regarding the educational and intrinsic values of an ever-decreasing resource. Hunts, photo tours and hiking tours are designed to educate and inform the public.

Closer to home, Pineland’s President includes among his accomplishments an award issued by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources relative to the “Acres for Wildlife” program, with special distinction of the most acreage ever compiled with the objective to develop a large tract of land in Harris County, Georgia as a quality wildlife management area. Also noteworthy, its President was founder and first publisher of what is currently Georgia’s largest and most successful monthly “slick” publication (Georgia Sportsman Magazine).
